Battleship Island & Other Ruined Urban High-Density Sites

Detecting Single Cancer Molecules — Maybe an analogous test using this type of process will become available for colon cancer in my lifetime.

Rep. Ralph Hall’s unbelievable statement on science funding bill — More of that justly famed conservative principled consistency and intellectual honesty, all in the service of cutting science funding and reducing American competitiveness. Seriously, how do you guys sleep at night?

Removing teachers with "accented" speech? — More arrant official racism in Arizona. Nothing to see here citizen, move along. Just making Real America safe for Real Americans.

Epistemic closure on the right — Hard evidence of yet another case where the conservative worldview remains immune to inconvenient facts. Outrage is so much more fun than logic.

As Oil Arrives On MS Beaches, Will Barbour Continue To Praise BP And Mock News Coverage Of The Spill? — Reality's anti-conservative bias rears its ugly, oil-soaked head again.

How much you wanna bet a white person with a deep southern drawl will still be able to teach a Spanish language class in AZ?

This is pure racism. They're not even trying to hide it.

These people disgust me to no end.

And in other news, I can't help but wonder if Brit Hume can see the oil yet? :P

"Teachers who are not fluent in English, who make grammatical errors while speaking or who have heavy accents will be temporarily reassigned."

My goodness...who *doesn't* make an error while speaking like dangling participles? Confusing fewer & lesser, council & counsel, tossing out "like"...."umm"..."you know"s? I also wonder just what kind of accents they will find most unintelligible. Would Southern drawls or Scottish brogues be likewise unacceptable?

In those photos of the Flatiron Building (where I'm writing this), you can see it in the "now" picture, but the building with the dome just to the left of the FIB in the "then" pic is actually still there. It's masked by the nearer building in the "now" picture. They are actually working on renovating the dome now, so it's surrounded by scaffolding, but it has survived to this day.

I first heard about this from Andrei Codrescu's piece on NPR: "Arizona Education Loses The Accent Of America", http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126480169 . Good Lord, Andrei uses the English language in a manner that is far superior to any ridiculous Arizona politician -- and he makes sense! So let's hear it for communication skills.

Teh Stupid. It Burnz.
