The Thing About Dave, Cont. — Ta-Nehisi Coates with more on Dave Weigel. I was struck by this bit, near the end: It's fun to be mean, and it makes your side howl--and sometimes it's even necessary. But my game is as follows--stating my opinions directly, clearly and without equivocation and without undue malice. That's pretty much what I was getting at in my post a while back on kindness in discourse. [ jlake.com | LiveJournal ] Also, if you're interested Ed Brayton and Keith Olbermann on the same topic.

I dunno - I look at the vuvuzelas and see all those plastic trumpets we've had here for decades. *shrug* I really liked a LOLcat-style image a few days ago of an angel blowing a long trumpet to the dismay of another figure directly below it saying "vuvuzelas: irritating people since 1660"

A truly incredible APOD...it cries out to be a Sci-Fi book cover.

?otD: if there is one, sure.

I liked the bit at the end of the vuvuzela article where there is a filter to stop the sound on tv.

I’ll work on making this Earth more heavenly and see where that leads.

Wow. That airshow has me on the verge of tears. I loved those old shows, and the creative effort that went into the ships, especially since they were modeled and shot, not digitally animated like nowadays.

They had Hawks! I emitted squeeons (units of fannish energy, doncha know).

The one thing they need, though, is a couple of UFO vessels.

That one shuttle in picture 2, on the far left: is that an LSH Mark 454 Interplanetary?

Maybe, when I'm done learning what I need to learn and accomplishing what I need to accomplish. However, given that I believe that will take several lifetimes, I don't think I'll be going to heaven for more than visits, if at all, for a very long time.

I suppose it depends on how you define heaven. But if it is the xian version of heaven and hell, then I'd rather join all my heathen friends and lovers in hell; it's got to be more fun. Thinking about it, most of the artists, writers, musicians, thinkers, etc I enjoy will be in hell too - that heaven would be boring as fuck to me.
