Mark your calendars now. In celebration of my natal anniversary, JayCon X, my 10th annual 37th birthday party, will be Saturday, July 3rd, from 2 to 5 pm at the Flying Pie in SE Portland. (That's this coming Saturday.) Come help me celebrate both my birthday and my successful completion of six months of chemotherapy in late June. If you can read this, you're invited. Prior JayCon experience not required.

We're partying because I was born, and because I will have beat cancer. Again.

Flying Pie Pizzeria
7804 SE Stark Street
Portland, 97215

As is traditional for JayCon, Paul M. Carpentier is specifically not invited.

Valerie and I had been giving serious consideration to surprising you and flying out for JayCon X. The rapid downturn in her dog's health in the past month made that unworkable, and yesterday's end has us in a less than festive mood.

But we have a puppy in the house, who now bears the responsibility of being "sole dog," and on your natal day I will regale him with tales of Jayness, and in so doing rekindle the light of hope and joy that has dimmed here for us.

May you have a splendid day, overflowing with friends and family, brilliant conversation, and no few unrequested presents that are cunningly disguised manifestations of love and respect.

I am so sorry about the passing of your dog. Thank you for the good will and good wishes.

And to lighten your day a bit, I give you the WaffleSicle:

But... but... the butter and syrup and whipping cream will all slide off!

And yet, behold, my day is suddenly lighter.
