Cool. I bought my second computer, a Commodore-64 in that little white building on the left in 1985. One summer's worth of working in the embassy mailroom to pay for it.

There was a little bald guy there selling bespoke-cut foam rubber and Commodore computers. I kid you not.

No way that could happen now. Now the entire area rents for thousands monthly. Mostly to chain companies and there's a monstrous arena in the middle of it. But Tony Chen's is still there, at least.

Having worked in embassies myself a time or two, I must inquire, the mailroom of what embassy?

No worries. U.S. Embassy, Islamabad. It was still in temporary digs, then, because of the troubles in '79. Great summer job. With dahl and chapatis for lunch every day for one rupee. And all the mimeographing a boy could ever ask for.
