Foreign accents: I frequently get addressed in bad Spanish -- or on occasion in bad Arabic -- until I open my mouth, whereupon the results are varied. How varied? On one occasion I got told "That's a weird accent." Once, coming out of seeing the big Wallace and Gromit flick, one of the people going in to clean the cinema asked "How do you like that British humour?" I replied "I rather like it, actually." "Oh, be like that." He growled back, apparently thinking I was putting it on.

So Ellison who has spent a career as a troll apparently can't take it. Fascinating....

My mother, who has a strong east Texas/northern Louisiana accent in person, often gets mistaken for British on the phone. Which to my ear is nothing less than bizarre.
