My tor.com story draws a lot of flak in comments — Apparently I write with tired, politically correct tropes. Good thing I always believe the story belongs to the reader.

SMBC on ending sentences with a preposition

Wombats, pangolins and platypuses in a Victorian mansion... in Wales — Huh.

A Battle of Britain anniversary poster — Some very nice design here.

I've been to cardiff castle, and someone described the animals carved, well. "it was as if they took what they THOUGHT was a bear.."

tbe staff have great tales of the fauna collected by the dotty nobility, ie beavers, that blocked up the moat and nearly caused a tower collapse, and terrorized the ladies on the lawns.

I can't wait to go back. It's just lavishly decorated and so interesting.

The comments on your story are so snotty! It looks like you struck a nerve, especially what with putting non-white, non-Christian, non-male characters in there, you daring author you. How political can you be?! *laughs*

Short fiction often baffles me, but I quite liked this one. A pleasant bauble of a story with enough weight to stick with me.

I enjoyed the story. Maybe it's not my usual cup of tea, but it had an interesting old school vibe to it, in terms of ideas/concepts over easily-discernable plot. It's a story where you have to put the pieces together before you see the big picture.

I'm surprised it got the responses it did. I wasn't aware that so many of those elements were tired and politically fashionable. Go figure.

Remove the .vhost.zerolag.com (I guess Jay made a cut-n-paste error):

There's a colony of feral wallabies in Scotland; on an island in Loch Lomond and I think in some of the adjacent land.

Ah, the marquis of Bute and his restoration projects. If you think Cardiff is OTT, you should see Castell Coch. http://www.wales360.co.uk/castell_coch/
