Spent the afternoon at OHSU. As calendula_witch explains, we now have a schedule for tomorrow. I'm to be at surgical admitting at 6 am. Surgery is scheduled for 7:30 am. It ought to last three to four hours. I'll then spend a few hours in recovery before being transferred to ICU for overnight.

Friday I should be transferred to a regular bed, and I'll be able to have visitors. If things go well, I'll be discharged Monday. I will be interested in visitors once I'm out of ICU. Watch this space or calendula_witch's blog for details.

Meanwhile, tonight I have a colonic purge and a liquid diet. Because I know how to party.

You'll all be in my thoughts tomorrow. May your healing be as swift and painless as possible, and may the chemo treat you lightly!

What mess did they give you for the colonic purge? I laugh every time they promise me "this new stuff actually doesn't taste bad ..."

Magnesium citrate this time. Which is admittedly better than Go-Litely or Fleet. (But that's a bit like saying baby poop is better than dog poop or cat poop.)

Hmmm. I need to schedule my next colonoscopy. Maybe I'll ask them about that, since Go-Litely and Fleet have both been so fun.

I've done Half-Lytely (2L fluid + 2 bisacodyl) and magnesium citrate (10oz + 4 bisacodyl). I found the magnesium citrate harder to choke down, because of the viscosity and salinity, but at least there was less of it. There was just SO MUCH of the Half-Lytely. Or maybe I picked the wrong flavor packet (pineapple).

Don't some doctors prescribe all pills and no disgusting salty liquid?!

Not much I can say but, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Get through it, recover well, heal fast, and keep your sense of humor.

Btw, if you need good entertainment whilst recovering, I recommend any of Eddie Izzard's standup shows, most of which I think are on Netflix streaming so you can watch them on your iPad. My mom swears by Eddie as getting her through recovery in the hospital from the serious auto accident she was in a few years back. ;p

You know, of course, there are people who willingly pay for "colonic purge". And lots of people will risk liver and life for a liquid diet.

Yeah, I know that doesn't help, really, but I hope it made you smile.

Don'tcha think "The Colonic Purge" would be a good short story title? (If you could get the rights, "Tom Swift and His Colonic Purge" would be even better.)

Have a trouble-free procedure!
