The always wise jimvanpelt on teaching, writing, and infective pursuits — I love this post.

What Happened When I Yelled Back at the "Christians" Calling My Wife a MurdererThese people aren't used to being confronted. They prey on the weak and they pounce on the wounded. But I chose to fight back. Confidential to conservative America: Your private religious convictions, no matter how sincerely held, really are not a basis for public policy. Any more than anyone else's are. After all, you might not like the outcome.

Stay classy, Tea Party America. It's what you do best, you head-stomping, reporter-cuffing, lawsuit-happy scamps. The country definitely needs more of your kind of leadership!

I'm trying to parse your question of the day. Are you asking me to choose between Madeline Kahn or Orthodox Jews? Ghenghis Khan or a group of Jimmy Cohans? I'm confused.... ;-)

Back in college, I used to argue with anti-abortion protesters for entertainment. One thing that endeared me to my now DH was when, early on in our relationship, he took offense to the protester physically threatening me, and advised said protest, in no uncertain terms, that he'd hurt the protester guy if the guy touched me. In those days, DH did summer logging with his dad on their property to raise money for college. He was trim, fit, and tough. Think hippie liberal logger. Definitely fitter and stronger than the guy threatening me.

Then, instead of what most guys would have done back in 1980, he told me he was proud of me being the outspoken Political Girl I was.

Reader, I married him.
