Analyzing Literature by Words and NumbersVictorian literature, statistically analyzed with new process. I love the bit about syntax and prosody, especially. Ah, the perils of analysis. (Via my Dad.)

Moonrise Through Mauna Kea's Shadow — An APOD image that might give you pause on first seeing it.

From the pages of Tech-Youth — Dirigibles ahoy, Soviet style. I love this art.

Hannukah Fail — This is right up there with deli cheeseburgers. Though I've always wondered why you couldn't have, say, goat cheese with beef.

Hannukah Fail

I have a photocopy of a page from an old Washington, D.C. phone book, where one of the listings under "Butchers, Kosher" is for the Virginia Honey Baked Ham Co.

You can't have goat cheese with beef because you never can be quite *sure* what God meant by that . . .

Always best to err on the side of caution.

But what about cheese with chicken? Surely we need never worry about cooking a chicken in its mother's milk. Perhaps we should avoid eating chicken with eggs instead.

The Hannukah ham photograph was taken by my friend herself_nyc at a NYC Baducci's grocery store a couple of yeas ago. It took the internet by storm and she ended up with her 15 minutes of fame as a result (disheartening for her as a writer, since she'd hoped her one published novel would accomplish that for her). You can read about some of the media coverage she received at her LJ.

Oh pfooie. I forgot she'd gone Friends Only. Hm. Well, here's her original, unlocked post about discovering the Hanukkah ham sign. Here's coverage at Consumerist.com, the New York Daily News, and Associated Press (via MSNBC). She was also interviewed on local CBS and ABC affiliates.

I found it ironic that the Jewish friend who showed me a similar ad also loves her bacon cheeseburgers. Go figure...possibly another thing more honored in the breach.
