Review: Cthulhu's Reign ed. Darrell Schweitzer — Including a somewhat mixed reaction to my story, "Such Bright and Risen Madness in Our Names".

Five steampunk books you should readMainspring made the honorable mentions in this article.

Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Write Novellas — An article on that most heterodox literary form, the novella. Link is to a .pdf file, FYI. (Via Greg Feeley.)

Some observations about e-books and illegal downloading — Paul Cornell speaks wisely and in great detail.

Scrivener's Error on e-books — Plus other divers alarums and entertainments.

Grace Jones singing "The Little Drummer Boy" to Peewee Herman — Because, you know, it's Newtonmass, when weird never goes out of style. (Via willyumtx.)

Studless snow tires. Year-round. Excellent for mud and rain as well as snow.

All-season radials. If the conditions are bad enough to demand studded snow tires on an AWD, we stay home . . .

(Yes, home office and Wife now retired, we have that option.)

All-season radials, though given how stupid Philly is about keeping the roads clear (i.e., they don't), I'm considering the purchase of a set of chains. Screw them if I chop up the blacktop.

Re: the Chinese ban on English, I have two thoughts:

1. I realize more Chinese people now speak English than native English speakers, but if the directions and warning labels on most Chinese-made products are any indication, they really, really suck at it.

2. I am vastly amused that others object to the incorporation of English into their language, when meanwhile English is a language created and expanded by the steady incorporation of foreign terms.
