Doing the hard work - fitness and writing — Though provoking stuff, especially for those just starting in as novelists.

Harlan Ellison vs. Hitler — ZOMG this is funny and bizarre.

The Real American Pie — Being the true and accurate history of mincemeat pie. Also, funny as hell.

20 Awesomely Untranslatable Words from Around the World — "Jayus" is the cool one. (Thanks to Blake Hutchins.)

The Year's Best Tech ProductsA roundup of the most significant technologies to come to market in 2010. It sort of amazes me how many of these I haven't heard of or don't want. Must be getting old.

The Almighty Dollar — Correlating professed religious belief and income tiers. (Via danjite.)

Don't spin the Civil WarThe Civil War is about to loom very large in the popular memory. We would do well to be candid about its causes and not allow the distortions of contemporary politics or long-standing myths to cloud our understanding of why the nation fell apart. Why not? Lying works so in politics.

Re: The Years Best Tech

IPad is cool and I definately want one when IPad 4.1 comes out (See IPad 2 hasn't even been announced and it's already obsolete!)

Of course that will be after I get my War Tuba (see avatar picture) and hit the lottery for a bazillion smackers.

Just saying.

The deer on the mountain at my father's place in Massachusetts would regularly descend to our orchard at windfall time to eat the fallen, and fermenting, apples. On one occasion I saw two trembly-kneed young bucks going back up the hillside, leaning on each other for balance. I don't think they were singing "How dry I am," but it looked like they were humming it.

We used to have a bunch of pyracantha bushes, and one year, after the berries had been ripe for a while, a flock of robins came through, feasted, and staggered around for a couple of hours before managing to get airborne and away. It was quite a sight.
