An Open Letter to Simon and Schuester CEO Carolyn Reidy — A bizarre rant from an S&S author. As @ColleenLindsay says, "Writers, don't EVER do this. You have a problem? Let your agent handle it. You have meds? TAKE THEM."

Undoubtedly, sadly.

Just back from a nice long walk w/step-sis 'n' the doggie through her lovely neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Bougainvillea's blooming nicely, ditto jade plants, roses, &c. Will take one of my fave drives in a bit: heading down PCH from Sta Barbie to Sta Monica through Malibu &c. Dinner tonight w/SoCal boyfriend J and my ex-hubby & wife #2 at Killer Shrimp, finally back in biz (w/expanded menu, although I'll still just order the original Killer Shrimp & Bread...mmmm).

See ya' on the flip-side...

My god, that open letter was actively painful to read. I literally had to take a break partway through, do something else, and come back to finish the rest.

It's hard to even tell what's the most breath-takingly catastrophic thing about it -- the assumption that he knows better how the industry ought to be fixed, because of his know-how regarding other industries, than the people who have worked in it for decades; the implication that we somehow aren't aware of these problems until he descends from On High to point them out; the massive, massive entitlement that assumes he's such a fucking genius that everybody should fling out the red carpet for him to run the show (including the cover -- my god, the money I would pay to see his "three hour long design presentation" -- well, okay, no, a precis of it); the unshakeable belief that all we lack is the will to rearrange the entire business model (up to the level of petitioning Congress), and that furthermore times of stress are the best time to totally reinvent said business model . . .

My head hurts. I think I need to go lie down. >_<
