It's hard to believe that plea bargaining used to be a widely condemned practice considered a perversion of justice by the courts, and that since it was deemed constitutional less than half a century ago we've gotten to the point where over 90% of convictions involve a guilty plea -- many thousands of them from innocent people who just can't take the risk, and many thousands other from people who actually are guilty who are going to get off light for saving the court some time. The whole thing is a disgusting travesty of justice.

By the way, I recommend that article's author's book.
