After shooting near Empire State Building, we are besieged by violence againWhat can be said when the violence in our society outstrips the ability of satirists to depict it? Thank God for the NRA and their staunch conservative guardianship of this shooter's defense of his essentially liberties. Too bad about the people who got shot. Your guns are more important than their lives and safety. (Via David Goldman.)

Deconstructing A “Devastating” Interview — Another of the endless rounds of Your Liberal Media supporting the conservative narrative whole-heartedly.

Texas can cut off Planned Parenthood funds — The Republican jihad against women's health and women's rights continues unabated.

RNC Official: N.M. Governor ‘Dishonored’ Gen. Custer By Meeting With American Indians — Because, um… No. I got nothing. Once again the unhinged irreality of conservative America outstrips both my snark and my sarcasm.

My New Rule for Todd Akin and the Republican Party Next week in Tampa the Republicans must admit that the difference between a GOP convention and Comic-Con is that the people at Comic-Con have a much firmer grasp of reality. (Thanks to my Aunt M.)

Akin breakin’ scienceBad Astronomer Phil Plait with more on the Republican id. Conservatives are never at such a disadvantage as when they tell the unvarnished truth about their beliefs.

The Crackpot Caucus — Yeah, well, welcome to conservative America, where reality takes a distant back seat to ideological fantasies. We really do get the government we deserve. (Via Marta Murvosh.)

Tampa Area Republicans terrified of Tea Party, Ryan — I have zero sympathy for 'reasonable' Republicans who now regret their party's hard turn into insanity. They were happy to encourage the lunatic fringe for the sake of votes these past few decades. Now the lunatics have taken over the asylum. No one could possibly have foreseen this!

What Ever Became of George W. Bush?Beyond that, neither party wants anything to do with him. It's not surprising that Democrats still think of him as the Frat Boy President, one of the worst of all time, but what is surprising is that Republicans largely agree. It's even more surprising that only three years after the end of Bush's disastrous incumbency, when we're still a long way from digging out of the deep hole he left us in, so many Americans think electing another Republican is good idea. (Snurched from Slacktivist Fred Clark.)

If Mitt Romney was a black Democrat — Respectable Republicans and Birtherism.

Not just another Republican, but one who is espousing the same imbecilic, myopic policies that got us into this mess.
