Version control — BLDG BLOG on the lost rivers of Los Angeles. I do wish this blog wouldn't batch update. Harder to link to when three or four posts appear in one day after a week or two of silence.

The ducks will get you in the end — Somebody learned in church that ducks mate for life, and are therefor superior to teh Gay. But then there's pesky facts… It's ducks all the way down. And up the back. I love the conservative mind, it's such a cesspool of fantasy and contradiction and sheer ridiculousness. ([info]martang.)

Bend Dental Hygienist Wins Scientology Suit — What if the dentist had pressured his hygienist to attend a Christian seminar? Would a court even had taken her case? Religious freedom runs in all directions, despite what the GOP would have you believe.

Government to Argue That Detention for Carrying Arabic Flashcards Was Justified — Feel safer now?

FBI: Border Patrol was agent killed by 'friendly fire'One US Border Patrol agent was killed and another wounded in gunfire Tuesday along a well-known drug-trafficking corridor near the US-Mexico border. The FBI now says it was friendly fire. Feel safer now?

Candidate slammed for World of Warcraft fandom — The geek generation is going into politics. Guess which political party is getting paranoid about it?

The US Congress Anti-Science CommitteeYou may disagree with me about the shaky ground (like Richter 10 shaky) Broun stands on Constitutionally, but there is no doubt – none – that he is 100% completely off the rails with his science. The Big Bang is "straight from the pit of hell"? It’s bad enough that anyone would actually believe something like that, let alone a Congressman, but I will remind you he sits on the House science committee! Your Republican party. Systematically ruining America for all of us.

Solid Jobs Report Spawns Crackpot ‘Job Truthers’ Movement — Because nothing that reflects well on Obama can possibly be true. This kind of conservative lunacy is what you get when you build an entire political movement on explicitly denying reality and spinning your own "facts" to suit ideology.

Obama lightens up with Big Bird on the campaign trail

Romney: I lied to top donors, 47% comments “completely wrong” — It's Etch-a-Sketch politics with Etch-a-Sketch principles. Shut up shut up shut up. Because liberals have no ethics!

...while I have spent time in La Jolla (after all, I was in grad school there), I have never been to Mitt Romney's house.

I once had a dentist tell me he couldn't treat me "until I got right with God." Oddly enough, he didn't specify which one. I took the bib off, got up, and walked out of his office.

Also, growing up in suburban LA, I learned the word 'barranca' at an early age because there was one at the end of the playground at my elementary school. I was extremely surprised to learn after we moved away from there when I was an adolescent that everywhere else they're called ravines [g].

Where I used to live we had a family of ducks coming reguarly to the birdfeeder. This family consisted of two drakes and a duck. They came over several years, usually all three, sometimes a drake and the duck, sometimes the two drakes together (particularly during laying/chick season). Stable, long-term relationship.

So much for the animal kingdom.
