This. Religious activism in pursuit of anti-gay bigotry is all about politics and power. Not about morality or what is right and good. (Via Slacktivist Fred Clark.)

Subject: Circle of Vulnerability
More than half of the world's population lives inside this circle ...

The really scary thing is that the circle includes

(1) a highly-unstable region of volcanoes which has been known to produce multiple supervolcanic eruptions over the last 100 thousand years, including the Toba eruption c. 73 KYA (which may have nearly wiped out homo sapiens sapiens), and

(2) two of the three areas (India-Pakistan and Korea) most likely to suffer a thermonuclear war over the next few decades. (It also has the third area right off its northwestern limits, namely Israel to Iran).

Makes me glad to be living on the other side of the Northern Hemisphere.

PS - That circle is also not far off the one chosen as target by Niven and Pournelle's aliens in Footfall, for the eponymous attack.

The church withholding Communion... but not from the priests or bishops involved in the sex abuse. It is about politics and power and a long, long history of abuse on all levels. Former Catholic, not just lapsed.

Leonard Nimoy's Vulcan death grip - a useful talent, and one which I wish I possessed.
