I don't understand why you have such a block to understanding the value of having a secure place in the world and in human community, even if it's one you don't like and rebel against

If that's your understanding of my view, then I'm not expressing myself well.

I have no block to understanding the value of having a secure place in the world and in human community. I celebrate that, and wish everyone happiness in that regard. Faith-holding is a perfectly reasonable and satisfactory path to such a secure place.

What I do not understand is maintaining a faith which is so patently at odds with one's own gender or sexual identity, with one's own personal experiences, and one's moral and ethical views of the world. This exact process is so painfully demonstrated so often on the FMH blog. (Especially when they talk about gay and trans issues, but also more generally about women's issues.)

To my mind, that kind of painful dissonance would be a clear signal that one's faith is not meeting one's needs, and one might be well-advised to seek a faith more tolerant and welcoming of those needs. As a convert to another religion, I assume you understand this.
