Okla. Satanists seek monument by Statehouse steps — This in response to a Ten Commandments monument. Brady Henderson, legal director for ACLU Oklahoma, said if state officials allow one type of religious expression, they must allow alternative forms of expression, although he said a better solution might be to allow none at all on state property. Hahaha. I’m tempted to donate money to this effort.

GOP starts a tough struggle to win back Asian American votersAsian Americans, a rapidly growing part of the electorate, have shifted solidly behind Democrats – and Republicans face a tough fight to win them over. Confidential to GOP in America: You can’t do this and cling to your Angry White Guy strategy at the same time. At some point, you’ll need to go into rehab to get over that Angry White Guy addiction.

In Australia the "Copenhagen Left" is called a "Hook Turn", with the left and right swapped over since we drive on the opposite side of the road to you. Oh, and it's done with cars as well as bikes. :)

Yes, I'm serious.

In large areas of Melbourne was have trams running up the middle of the road in their own designated lanes as well as the normal traffic lanes. In the inner city areas this created a problem. If you had two lanes of traffic at a set of traffic light, when the light went green the left hand lane couldn't turn left because pedestrians were crossing the road and had right of way, and the right hand lane couldn't turn right because the traffic coming the other way, and there was no way they wanted to get into the tram lanes because trams are big and the drivers tend to be a big aggressive. This resulted in intersections that basically didn't move most of the time.

The solution was the Hook Turn. If you were turning right across traffic you did it from the left hand lane by driving up to the head of the lanes heading in the direction you are intending to go and pulling slightly off to the left. Once the lights for the direction you are heading turn green you finish your right turn and end up being the first car in the lane heading in that direction. Under normal circumstances 3 or 4 cars would be able to make the right turn each change of lights.

Meanwhile the right hand lane would have all the people going straight through the intersection whizzing past without a problem.

(To translate to American, swap all mentions of right and left.) :)

It confuses (and scares) the hell out of people who don't know what's going on, but it actually works.
