Working through the reader comments on Stemwinder, I find this note: "That is gratuitously weird" appended to this line:

Pillars lay broken on the ground, overgrown with vines and clinging flowers the color of a dog's tongue.

seems to me that its wierd for flowers rather than vines to be clinging. gratuitous, I dont know, wierd, yes.
