Poll #933586 What do the lyrics really mean?

The chorus of "Blinded By the Light" refers to:

Feminine hygiene
The Vietnam War
Hot rods
The loneliness of the long distance runner

Who did Jimi Hendrix want to kiss?

His bass player
Blake Edwards
John Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh
Some guy
No, this guy

What, precisely, is a whiter shade of pale?

LINUX geeks
Her face at first just ghostly
Underwear that's fun to wear
I don't know, but I'm turning cartwheels across the floor

Why are we having this poll?

Mama, that's where the fun is
Jay doesn't listen to any music recorded after 1990
Because it's Friday and it's too early to start drinking
Wait, it's never too early to start drinking

Bonus question

Bonus answer
Ticky box
Tocky box
Barry Bostwick
Boston's "More Than a Feeling"

Paging Dr. Mondegreen: that's "kiss the sky".

Also, from this sample, it looks more like "Jay doesn't listen to any music recorded after 1979, and we're looking pretty squinchy at '78" Not, of course, that there's anything wrong with that. But I hear Springsteen did some later stuff, too.

that's "kiss the sky".

Yes, hence my subtle little joke about Baron Rayleigh, of Rayleigh Scattering fame. :D

I actually said 1990 because I adore They Might Be Giant's brand new album Flood, though I didn't insert any Flood references into this poll...

re Rayleigh Scattering - Ah, Jay, you are too sub-tile for me. I guess I was confused by your not going for any of the many, popular mondegreens in "Blinded By the Light" -- possibly the world's top contender for an all-mondegreen song.

Flood is a very fine effort, but if you like that, you might be about ready to discover that other screamingly cutting edge band, Toad the Wet Sprocket, or even Barenaked Ladies. Admittedly, that would put you alarmingly close to the present century... :) :)

Unpredictability R us.

And yes, I've actually enjoyed listening to Barenaked Ladies. Toad I'll have to check out...

I was behind the times even when those were the times.

re Toad - Check out the album Dulcinea -- their best album-qua-album, imho, so if that one don't do it for you, probably nothing will. And with an opener critiquing the theological soundness of Petro-Pauline doctrine, what's not to like?

My husband Lee is the biggest TMBG fan in the WORLD. He owns every album ever released and even went to their concert the day his first child was born (okay, with his previous wife's permission. He's lucky they weren't playing the day our child was born :))They could put together a cover album Sesame Street songs and he'd buy it.

...and while you enjoyed FourPlay's album from last year, the lyrics are at best a sideline.
I too adore Flood, and even 2-3 of their albums after that too!

See? I was gonna go with Barry Bostwick. But, I was really feeling more of a Tim Curry vibe. Or at least Meatloaf.

And, well, there are only so many ticky (or tocky) boxes in a day.

Have you heard "Blinded by the Lights" by The Streets? It's not a cover; in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they've never heard the song you're referring to. You might be entertained by it, I don't know. British rap is ... absurd.
