The full text of the Kirkus review of Mainspring can be seen at the book's barnesandnoble.com page. For the most part, it's a terrific review, and highly quotable.

And the best part of the review is, Kirkus summarized the whole book and gave away all of the plot points, so we won't even need to read it for ourselves. Yippee! Gawd, I hate reviews like that.

But congrats, and I'm looking forward to reading it.

That is a puzzling review, in that it's not really much of a review. More of a synopsis, with a single ambiguous sentence tacked on the end to sort of suggest an impression. Nothing about prose, plotting, characterization, all of which I'm sure are excellent. Peculiar.

On the plus side, the whole concept of the novel sounds so cool and intriguing that I'd buy it on that basis alone (though there are other reasons I'll buy it, too).

I'm going to agree with the previous comments - that wasn't a review, that was a plot summary with a fillip of intro/exeunt. I'd have gotten failing marks for handing in something that in second grade.

[following up - I was so annoyed at the quality of that "review" that I sent B&N's customer service a cranky note to complain about it. B&N isn't doing themselves any favors by having such inept reviews on their site.]
